Seven New Arrivals at The Birch: Tart, Dark, Hoppy & Bright

The board has been filling up with some genuinely interesting new arrivals.

There is something tart and spicy, something dark enough to linger over, a pair of crisp lagers, a cozy Belgian winter beer and a Red IPA with wonderfully old-school hop character. In other words: plenty of reasons to come curious.

Here is what is new at The Birch.

Mezcla Frambuesa — Alesong × Xicha Brewing

Tart Ale · 9.4% ABV · Draft

Inspired by a spicy raspberry margarita, Mezcla Frambuesa is fermented with Oregon raspberries and aged in añejo tequila barrels. Fire-roasted jalapeños bring just enough warmth to balance its fresh berry character.

Expect something sweet, tart and gently spicy—with a vivid crimson pour that looks every bit as interesting as it tastes.

Cherry Decadence — Alesong

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout · 14.2% ABV · Bottle Pour

Cherry Decadence begins as an imperial oatmeal stout, rests in bourbon barrels and is finished with dried cherries and vanilla beans.

It is rich, dark and luxurious: the sort of beer to order by the glass and take your time with.

Whole Cone Fest Märzen — Halfway Crooks

Hopfen Lager · 5.4% ABV · Draft

Whole Cone Fest takes a malt-forward Märzen and gives it a more vibrant hop profile through the use of whole-cone hops.

The result keeps everything we want from the style—toastiness, balance and easy drinkability—while adding a fresh, lively hop character. Festbier season, Birch-style.

Yuzu Nama Biiru — Japas Cervejaria

Japanese Rice Lager · 4.9% ABV · Draft

Nama biiru means “live” or fresh beer in Japanese, and this lager is designed to capture that bright, just-poured feeling.

It is light, dry and crisp, with Sorachi Ace and Lemondrop hops plus a refreshing touch of yuzu. This is the one for anyone looking for something delicate, citrusy and very easy to drink.

N’Ice Chouffe — Brasserie d’Achouffe

Belgian Winter Beer · 10% ABV

N’Ice Chouffe is a powerful dark-brown Belgian winter beer with warming notes of thyme and orange peel.

It is spicy, fruity and unapologetically cozy—even if Norfolk has not quite committed to winter yet.

Youngblood — The Veil Brewing Co.

West Coast Red IPA · 6.3% ABV

Youngblood is The Veil’s reimagining of its former Yung Blud label, this time as a West Coast-inspired Red IPA.

A biscuity malt base and subtle caramel notes meet assertive Columbus, Cascade and Mosaic hops. Look for grapefruit pith, peach skin, pine and plenty of dank, old-school American hop character.

Pizza Night — Field Recordings

Chillable Gamay Noir · Central Coast, California

Despite the name, this one is wine—and it is quite literally made for pizza night.

Field Recordings Pizza Night is a bright, juicy red with fresh cherry, strawberry, soft tannins and lively acidity. Serve it with a slight chill and let it do exactly what it was designed to do: cut through melted cheese, tomato sauce and all the good things that belong on a pizza.

It is an easygoing choice for wine drinkers, beer drinkers looking for a change of pace and anyone arriving at The Birch with pizza on the brain.
