What’s New at The Birch: Malia’s Pick, a Kiuchi Trio & Two New Wines

There’s quite a bit to discover at The Birch right now—and you certainly don’t have to be a beer expert to find something good.

This week brought us one of Malia’s current beer picks, three very different arrivals from a longtime favorite Japanese brewery, and two new wines by the glass.

Malia’s Current Pick: Fox Farm Bloom’d

Fox Farm Bloom’d is one of Malia’s current favorites.

Her notes:

Lemon tart • dried mango • a little Brett • crisp and dry

It’s interesting, delicious and beautifully made—exactly the kind of beer we love introducing to people at The Birch.

You don’t need to know the style or recognize every tasting term. Tell us what you normally enjoy, and we’ll help you decide whether Bloom’d should be your next glass.

The Kiuchi Owl Brought Options

Our fondness for Kiuchi Brewery goes back many years, and this week the little Hitachino owl arrived with something for three different kinds of drinkers.

Kiuchi Japanese Cider

Kiuchi makes this cider with apples grown in northern Japan, primarily Fuji apples sourced from farms near the brewery.

The apples are pressed and fermented slowly with sake yeast before the cider is matured, bottled and refermented. The result reflects an unusually patient process designed to bring the fruit, fermentation and aromatics into harmony.

Hitachino Nest Ginger & Yuzu Non Ale

This genuinely distinctive nonalcoholic option brings together floral, lightly honeyed aromatics with touches of sweet mint.

Yuzu and ginger provide freshness, balance and zest without overwhelming the drink. Gentle carbonation gives it a beer-like liveliness while keeping it entirely its own thing.

Hitachino Nest White Ale

And for the beer drinkers, Hitachino Nest White Ale is currently on tap.

Cider, nonalcoholic or White Ale—which one would you try first?

Two New Wines by the Glass

The Birch may be known for beer, but wine drinkers have a seat at our bar too!

Two new bottles have joined the by-the-glass list:

  • Château des Antonins Bordeaux 2024
Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon with grapefruit, tropical fruit and a bright, fresh finish.

  • Ultraviolet Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
Soft and velvety with violets, blackberry, blueberry, pie spice and bramble.

Come for a glass, settle into a comfortable corner and add something from the food menu.

Come Curious

The Birch is a cozy neighborhood bar for curious drinkers.

That might mean a carefully chosen beer, a new wine, Japanese cider, an unexpectedly interesting nonalcoholic drink or a grilled cheese built exactly the way you want it.

You don’t have to know what to order before you arrive. That’s what we’re here for.
